The Thermobalance (TGA) is able to determine the change of the sample mass depending on the temperature. This is useful for all substances, which change chemically by thermic treatments by for instance freeing up gases. Especially interesting is not only the quantizing of these gases but also the identification. For this reason the thermobalance is connected with a spectrometer. The substance which will be analyzed is bicarbonate of soda, better known as baking powder.
