April 3, 2014, Biotech Forum, Hall A3
Biotechnology is a key interdisciplinary technology that continues to
increase in significance. However, the question of reliable financing
is still a topic that moves the industry. Which is one more reason to
get tips from experts at analytica Finance Day.
Whether it comes to food, cosmetics or the pharmaceuticals
industry—a number of investors are showing interest in
biotechnology. However, in many cases, they also view the industry with
a great deal of skepticism. Which is why, among other things, experts
recommend that companies change their views. What they need are new
business models and to move toward being platform developers instead of
just therapy developers. These approaches are supposed to offer them
more financing opportunities and make them less dependent on venture
capital. Other potential solutions include public-private partnerships
(PPPs) as well as cluster and research grants from universities,
institutes and SMEs. But which path is right for one's own company? And
where is the industry headed? The 4th Finance Day, which is organized by GoingPublic Media, will
explore these and other questions. For the first time ever, it is being
held on the third day of the fair
(April 3, 2014).
Topics at a glance:
- Panel 1
Early-phase financing/Venture capital: "Challenge accepted!?
Who is still investing in biotech start-ups?"
- Panel 2
"Cooperation between Big Pharma and biotech—Partnership or compromise solution?"
- Panel 3
Bio-economy: "More than industrial biotechnology or a buzzword?"
- Panel 4

program of events also includes the "elevator pitch". Lectures on the
topic of the bio-economy with Dr. Viola Bronsema, Managing Director of
BIO Deutschland e.V., and financing and the status quo of the
life-science industry by Dr. Siegfried Bialojan, Executive Director and
Head Life Science Center at Ernst & Young, are also planned.
